I have had Marty's book Inspired on my shelf for a while. I keep meaning to get into it, then *drama* ensues in the PM community and it kind of puts me off.
Yes, I think Martys writing is a very good resource and worth the time. But his writing is not a step by step description and is more in the direction of principles, models, etc. In my view he tends to write in a bit idealized/simplified way. But the concepts are on point and if you look at successful product companies you will see that what he describes is practiced and is working for many. But of course, reality is more messy, nuanced, etc.
So in short, yes I think there are a lot of things to learn and think about in Martys (and SVPGs) writing, but as any book it isn't a magic wand or in any way perfect.
And I don't really care about the drama in social media. Even if some things just get my mind to think harder about a topic and give me a new perspective (pro or con) it's helpful.
Notes on steroids, I love it!

Thanks, that's really useful. I'll pick it up from my shelf next (currently reading 'the cold start').
You're right, social media drama shouldn't affect it.
